Outcome is a darkly comedic psychological thriller starring Keanu Reeves, directed by Jonah Hill and produced under his Strong Baby banner, released in 2026. Reeves plays a Hollywood fixer whose carefully managed life spirals after a mysterious incident forces him to confront buried secrets and the fragile narrative he has built around himself. Blending sharp satire with tense character drama, the film offers a layered look at identity, reputation, fame, and consequence in the digital age.
SCANable supported the film’s visual storytelling with high-precision 3D laser scanning, capturing detailed scans of key filming locations and set environments. The resulting digital replicas gave the VFX team an accurate foundation for seamless compositing, set extensions, and subtle digital enhancements — clean, production-ready spatial data that kept every effect grounded in real-world geometry and preserved visual continuity across practical and digital elements.
A location exists for a few weeks
Everything a production builds is temporary. Sets are struck, practical locations return to their owners, and dressing goes back into storage or into a skip.
The window in which a space can be measured is exactly the window in which it is being filmed. After that, the only surviving record is the footage — and footage is a projection, not a measurement. It tells you what the room looked like from one position through one lens. It does not tell you how wide the room was.
Capturing during production converts a temporary space into a permanent, dimensioned record. It is the cheapest insurance on a VFX schedule and the one most often skipped, because the cost of skipping it does not appear until months later.
Survey-grade data has a second life
A terrestrial LiDAR survey of a set is not only a VFX deliverable. It is an accurate as-built record of a physical space, and it answers questions nobody thought to ask on the day.
How far is the door from the window. What is the ceiling height in the corner where the boom was. Does a replacement element fit through that stairwell. Those are enterprise survey questions, and the same point cloud answers them.
Productions that treat scan data as a general-purpose spatial reference rather than a single-shot asset tend to get more out of it than they planned to.
Subtle effects are the hardest to place
Invisible work has no cover. A digital enhancement in a dialogue scene is being examined by an audience with nothing else to look at, in a frame they have had several seconds to study.
Whatever gets added has to sit at the correct depth, at the correct scale, occluded correctly by everything in front of it. Those are all consequences of geometry. Get the geometry right and the composite becomes a lighting exercise; get it wrong and no amount of grading rescues the shot.
That is why quiet, character-driven films often need set and location scanning as much as effects-heavy ones do.
Formats that go straight into the pipeline
Registered point clouds, cleaned meshes, and photographic reference, aligned into a single real-world coordinate space and delivered in the formats the vendor works in. Where geometry is going to be rendered rather than used as reference, it ships after retopology and UV layout.
