CAPTURE / 03 — SET & LOCATION SCANNING

VFX Scanning —
Sets & Locations

On-set VFX scanning with LiDAR, structured light, and photogrammetry — sets, locations, environments, vehicles, and props. Set-experienced teams in six cities, mobile nationwide, delivering clean registered data your vendors can use on day one.

WHAT IT IS

Ground truth for everything you build later.

Set and location scanning captures the physical world as measurable data: a soundstage before strike, a practical set that has to be extended, a hero vehicle, a period prop, or a location you only have access to for an afternoon. That scan becomes the reference your matchmove, set extension, and virtual art department teams trust — accurate scale, accurate geometry, no guesswork weeks later when the location is long gone.

Because our teams came up through set work, we scan around a live production instead of stopping it. We know how to move quietly through a company move, work within a lighting setup, and hand off data in the formats your pipeline already expects.

HOW SCANABLE DOES IT

The right instrument for each surface.

No single sensor captures everything, so we combine them. Long-range LiDAR locks the overall scale and structure of a set or environment; structured light resolves the fine detail of props, sculptural elements, and vehicles; photogrammetry adds color-accurate texture. We register every pass into a single, clean coordinate space and remove the noise, so what your vendors open is usable geometry, not a raw dump they have to untangle.

Crews stage from Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York, New Jersey, Atlanta, and Houston and mobilize nationwide, which means a scan team can be on your set in hours — and when the environment is too large or too high to reach from the ground, we pair the same workflow with our aerial photogrammetry service.

WHAT YOU RECEIVE

Clean data your pipeline can open.

  • Registered point cloudsUnified coordinate space, decimated and cleaned to scale.
  • Meshed geometryWatertight or shell meshes for set extension and matchmove.
  • Textured photogrammetryColor-accurate surface detail for props and vehicles.
  • Pipeline-ready formatsDelivered to the specs your VFX vendors and VAD expect.

CAPTURED 3DGS-READY BY DEFAULT

Every set scan is a splat waiting to happen.

We don’t shoot a location just for meshes. Every set and location capture is shot with full photogrammetric coverage — overlapping, color-accurate imagery from enough angles that the same data set can be processed into a photoreal, real-time 3D Gaussian Splatting scene later, with no reshoot. You get the registered clouds and meshes your VFX vendors expect today, and a splat-ready archive of the environment for whenever a virtual production or interactive use comes up.
