Brothers is the 2024 action comedy starring Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage, released by Amazon MGM Studios in theaters and on Prime Video. Directed by Max Barbakow with a screenplay by Macon Blair from a story by Etan Cohen, the Legendary Pictures production also stars Glenn Close, Marisa Tomei and Brendan Fraser. The film opened in select US theaters on October 10, 2024, before debuting on Amazon Prime Video a week later on October 17.

SCANable provided 3D scanning for the production, capturing cast body scans, environments, backgrounds and props as photogrammetry and point-cloud data to support the film’s visual effects and camera tracking work.

What a point cloud is actually for

A point cloud is not a model. It is a measured record of where surfaces were, stored as millions of individual samples in one real-world coordinate space.

That distinction matters downstream. A modeler can build something that resembles a location. Only measurement tells a compositor how far the far wall really was, how high the ceiling ran, and where the camera must have been standing. Set and location scanning produces that record. Everything after it is interpretation.

Simultaneous capture and the stillness nobody has

Body scanning fails quietly. A performer holds a pose, the capture runs, and in those seconds they breathe, shift weight, and blink. Any method that sweeps across the subject or takes sequential passes bakes that movement into the geometry as drift.

The result is rarely an obvious error. It is soft edges and slightly wrong proportion — the failure that reads as “not quite them” when a digital double is cut against live-action coverage.

Firing every camera in an array at the same instant removes the variable instead of correcting for it later. That is the premise behind cyberscanning, and why our CyberSCAN™ arrays are built the way they are.

Objects get thrown, wrecked, and multiplied

Action comedy is hard on things. Objects are broken, duplicated and replaced, and each of those outcomes eventually needs a digital version that matches the practical item exactly.

Capturing a hero object while it still exists is far cheaper than rebuilding it from continuity stills months later. It also ends the argument about whether the CG version is correct. The measurement settles it.

Delivering into someone else’s pipeline

A scan is only useful if the facility receiving it can open it, trust its scale, and find it again six weeks later.

That means agreeing units and orientation before capture rather than after, naming assets to the production’s convention, and shipping both the raw measured data and a cleaned build. Everything leaves here after retopology, UV layout and render-ready preparation.
