Disclosure Day is Universal Pictures’ 2026 sci-fi thriller from director Steven Spielberg about humanity confronting proof of non-human intelligence. Centered on a single, world-altering moment of revelation, the film follows a small group of individuals caught at the intersection of truth, fear, and global consequence as governments scramble and society fractures — where the real question isn’t what has been revealed, but whether humanity is ready for it.

SCANable VFX provided advanced 3D scanning and photogrammetric capture for the film’s visual effects pipeline: high-resolution digital doubles for key performances, detailed environment capture for seamless set extensions, and accurate surface and lighting reference to ground complex VFX in realism. Our work helped ensure that even the film’s most extraordinary elements feel tangible and believable on screen.

Practical and digital in the same frame

The hardest composite is not the one where everything is CG. It is the one where half the frame was photographed and half was rendered, and the two halves have to agree.

Agreement means more than matching color. It means the digital half occupies space consistent with the practical half — same scale, same perspective, same distance falloff, same relationship to the floor. Those are geometric properties, and they come from measuring the practical element rather than estimating it.

A shot that mixes a real actor, a real room, and something that does not exist is only as convincing as the weakest of those three descriptions.

Crowds built from real people

A story about a global event needs population, and no production can afford to fill every frame with background performers.

Digital crowds solve the count. What they cannot solve on their own is variety: a crowd system fed a handful of generic bodies produces a visible repeat, and audiences spot repeats faster than they spot bad rendering.

Scanning real people in real wardrobe supplies the range — height, build, posture, clothing, hair — that makes a replicated crowd read as a group of individuals. Our full-body scanning work is what feeds that library.

Grounding the extraordinary in measured fact

Science fiction earns belief through its ordinary elements, not its extraordinary ones.

An audience has no reference for what the film’s central revelation should look like, so it cannot judge it. It has a lifetime of reference for a street, a house, a parked car, a face. If those read correctly, the invented element inherits their credibility. If they read as approximate, nothing else in the frame recovers.

That is why set and location scanning matters most on the material that seems to need it least.

What the VFX team actually receives

Scan data is a deliverable, not a byproduct. Point clouds are registered into a single real-world coordinate space, meshes are cleaned and decimated for their intended use, and character assets ship after retopology, UV layout, and texturing.

Our cyberscanning arrays capture performers in a single simultaneous exposure, so the likeness a vendor receives has not been reconstructed by hand.
