Father of the Bride is a 2022 romantic comedy starring Andy García and Gloria Estefan, released by Warner Bros. Pictures and HBO Max on June 16, 2022. Directed by Gaz Alazraki and written by Matt Lopez, it is the third screen version of Edward Streeter’s 1949 novel, following the original 1950 film and the 1991 remake. Produced by Plan B Entertainment, the film also stars Adria Arjona, Isabela Merced, Diego Boneta, and Chloe Fineman.

SCANable was responsible for character, location, and prop scanning on the feature film, delivering high-resolution 3D scans and photogrammetric data that supported the visual effects team with digital doubles and set-extension work.

The art department has already decided

When a prop exists physically, it stops being a design question. The art department has already decided its proportions, its finish, its wear, and how it reads on camera — and the audience has already seen it in a practical shot.

Anything the VFX team later needs to duplicate, multiply, extend, or remove has to agree with that object exactly. Not approximately, and not in spirit.

Prop scanning turns the built article into the dimensional reference everyone downstream works from. The digital version is not a reinterpretation of the design; it is a measurement of the thing that was made from it.

The effects nobody is meant to notice

A comedy set at a wedding does not announce its visual effects. There is no creature, no destruction, and no sequence the audience recognises as a shot that had to be built.

That makes the work harder rather than easier. Invisible effects are held to a standard where a single wrong dimension or a slightly off scale is the only thing the viewer registers, and they register it as “something looks strange” rather than as a specific fault.

Measured geometry removes the category of error entirely. An element built to the real object’s dimensions cannot be subtly the wrong size, because its size was never chosen.

Locations are borrowed, and the clock is real

Practical locations are rented by the hour. Houses, venues, and streets are available for a defined window, usually one that is already fully committed to photography.

Capture has to fit inside that window without becoming a line item on the schedule. In practice that means working between setups, moving in the gaps, and leaving the space exactly as it was found.

The alternative is worse than inconvenient. Once the company wraps and the location is returned, no measurement of it can be taken again, and every later question about that space has to be answered from photographs and memory. Our set and location scanning is built around that constraint, and our Mobile CyberSCAN™ Studios apply the same logic to talent capture — the rig travels to the production rather than the other way round.
