‘Hell Awaits’ is the 2014 promo for the final season of Sons of Anarchy, featuring Charlie Hunnam as Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller. In the spot’s signature VFX shot, created by The Mill, Hunnam’s face fades to a skull and back again — leaving viewers to wonder whether Jax is the Grim Reaper, or the Grim Reaper is coming for him.
SCANable performed a detailed 3D head scan of Hunnam on location in Acton, California. The scan gave the visual effects team an accurate digital likeness of the actor, anchoring the face-to-skull transformation at the heart of the teaser.
