The Instigators is Studio 8’s 2024 heist film directed by Doug Liman, about two Boston strangers recruited to rob a corrupt mayor on election night. Divorced Marine veteran Rory and alcoholic ex-con Cobby Murphy of Quincy are enlisted by mobsters Besegai and Dechico — alongside their underling Scalvo — to steal the massive cash bribes incumbent Joseph Miccelli collects at his election-night celebration at the Wharf, before the money is picked up by armored car. Rory, for his part, is adamant that his share come to exactly $32,480.
SCANable was responsible for 3D scanning props, characters, vehicles, and sets for the production, delivering photogrammetry and LiDAR data in support of the film’s visual effects.
