Goodrich (2024) is an American comedy film written and directed by Hallie Meyers-Shyer, starring Michael Keaton and Mila Kunis, released by Ketchup Entertainment. The film opened in United States theaters on October 18, 2024.
SCANable provided 3D scanning for the production, capturing actors, environments, and props with photogrammetry to support camera tracking, backgrounds, and CG work in the film’s post-production pipeline.
Small effects counts, ordinary standards
A character comedy is not a visual effects film, and its shot count reflects that. What does not change is the standard each of those shots is held to.
If anything, the standard rises. In a spectacle film the audience is looking at a dragon; in a drama they are looking at a living room and a face. There is nothing to distract from a background that has been fixed badly.
Small volumes of work also carry less schedule to absorb mistakes. A handful of shots means a handful of chances to get it right, which is precisely when accurate source data matters most.
Locations that belong to somebody else
Practical shooting means real houses, real streets, and real businesses, borrowed for a day. Nobody is going to leave the furniture where it was so post-production can come back and measure.
Capture therefore happens inside the production’s window, alongside everything else that is going on, and it has to be complete the first time. There is no scenario in which a location is re-opened three months later so a missing wall can be recorded.
Working that way is a logistics discipline as much as a technical one. Our set and location scanning is scoped around the reality that access ends when the unit wraps.
Invisible work still needs a double
Contemporary films use digital doubles constantly, and almost never obviously. Split-screen, a body in the far background, a stunt beat, a reflection that needs adjusting, a plate where one performer was never on set at the same time as another.

The cheapest insurance on a shoot
Most scan data captured on a film like this is never used in the way it was originally requested. That is not waste; that is the point of it.
Reference geometry costs a session during production. Not having it costs a reshoot, a compromise in the edit, or a shot built by eye and revised five times. The asymmetry between those two numbers is large, and it only becomes visible after the location is gone.
